This day.
9/11
It brings a flood of memories back to that horrible day. I remember it was a beautiful day. My windows were open. I was home with my young children. I heard my neighbor say something about a plane crashing into The World Trade Center. I flipped on the television and then watched in horror as the events of that day unfolded before me. I cried. I was numb. It was incomprehensible to me that I was watching as thousands of people slipped into eternity that day.
As awful as that day was, I also remember the days that followed. This graphic sums it up well:
So…this brings up something that has been on my mind since COVID began. Our nation’s response has been so vastly different than after 9/11…
As this picture says, there was unity, courage, and love. Empathy. Humility. An acknowledgment that evil is present in this world and we need God. I do miss those times in our country when we united and acknowledged our heroes.
COVID has only brought hatred, division, and casting blame on one another. A sense of power and control because we can keep ourselves “safe.” There has been no humbling before an Almighty God and asking for His help in the face of this danger, this invisible enemy that we can’t control. The politicians cast blame, say the other side is playing politics, while they themselves are doing the same things in different areas. Our nation is as divided as I’ve seen it…we are literally putting things into place to divide us more, thinking we are doing something good and “woke.”
So while I would love to see the “spirit” of 9/12 again, I’m not sure we will…
We live in an imperfect world and because of sin there is tragedy, suffering, and loss. Our society’s current attitude is essentially raising a fist in resistance to the Lord and His Word. We say, “do you” and “speak your truth,” and ignore, push away and deny The Only Truth. When we have no universal “manual” on how to live a moral life, everyone does that which is right in their own eyes (and we see that in our world today). We need the Lord!
And while our society may not be turning back to the Lord as we move closer to His return, we can as individuals seek the Lord. If you are feeling lost and hopeless, He can give you hope and joy. When you acknowledge your need of Him and accept Christ as your Savior, you have assurance of a home in Heaven for all of eternity. And in Heaven…there will be no more tears, no more sorrow, no more suffering.
John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Romans 10:9-10, 13
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Revelation 21:4
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away
