Sickness, Fellowship, and Brussels Sprouts

How is that for a random title? 😉

I had managed to keep from getting the sickness for quite some time. I mean, I work in a school where the flu has run rampant, our basketball team has passed it around since January, and everyone in my house has been sick. I even read something about Kansas being #1 in flu diagnoses this year. Yuck!

Anyway, the bug hit me on Friday and I’ve spent my nice, long weekend in bed or on the couch. I’m thankful for the time to rest, and I won’t complain because I know others who have been sick multiple times by now. I think I’m on the “upside” now…

Marc and I recently had the opportunity to visit a little church in Nebraska. He was actually asked to fill in for the pastor for a Sunday. He has preached many times at our church, but being asked to preach somewhere else was a first. We took the five hour trip on a Saturday and returned on Monday. While we knew that the folks would be like-minded in faith, we were still a little nervous not to know anyone there. We prayed over the trip and just wanted to be a blessing to the church. As it turns out, we had nothing to worry about. The people were so friendly and hospitable. The church was quite a bit smaller than our church, but the fellowship was just as sweet. Our intention was to be a blessing, but we certainly left there blessed!

Let me just encourage you to get involved in your church–no matter the size. Look for opportunities to be a blessing to others. Stir one another up to stay strong in your walk with the Lord.

Now as for those brussels sprouts–I always said brussel sprouts, but it seems to be brussels? I tried them today. My first time I think. To be honest, I have been following the Trim Healthy Mama eating plan, and have tried a lot of new things lately. Roasted okra. My ultimate new favorite–Green Fries (roasted green beans). I never ate green beans. Let’s just say I had a bad experience as a child and dared not try them again. But now I absolutely love them. Why am I telling you this?

That trip to Nebraska was a new experience for us. Something that made us a bit nervous.

But we knew the Lord wanted us to go. And we were blessed by the experience.

Don’t be afraid to try something new. Blessings await.

P.S. I’m not sure how I feel about the brussels sprouts yet. 😉

P.S.S. The ladies from the church in Nebraska will be starting my Bible study soon. Keep them in your prayers!
